Whitney International Gains Panamanian Partner – Universidad del Istmo joins educational alliance

(August 17, 2006) DALLAS – Continuing the search of providing accessible, affordable education for students that will lead to meaningful employment and richer life, Whitney International University System (WIUS) signed an agreement with the Universidad del Istmo (UDI), which will become a member of the system.

The agreement was announced Thursday by Dr. Gerald A. Heeger, president of WIUS, and Pablo Michelsen, rector of UDI.

"Universidad del Istmo is a dynamic institution that is not only playing a greater role in education in Panama, but will figure prominently in our efforts to make education more accessible and more affordable to students around the world," Dr. Heeger said.

Dr. Heeger said the current UDI administration will continue to direct the school and that WIUS will provide technological, academic, and administrative assistance to expand the institution's academic programs and student base.

"This partnership is an exciting opportunity to internationalize our programs," said Pablo Michelsen. "We will be able to expand our reach through new technology."

UDI currently offers a wide variety of technological courses and undergraduate degrees in finance, marketing/advertising, maritime business, video production, human resources, tourism and hotel management, as well as law and political science. Master's degrees are offered in higher education, transportation management, and business administration. UDI's main campus is in Panama City; and it has branch campuses in the cities of Chorrea and Chiriqui. UDI is accredited by the National University of Panama.
