Mr. Hawley is a co-founder of InterWest Partners, a large U.S. venture capital partnership formed in 1979. The partnership makes equity investments in diversified growth companies throughout their stages of development. He has also held leadership roles in McKinsey & Co. and was president of SHV North America Holding Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Netherlands Corporation and InterWest partners.

Mr. Hawley has a history of service on numerous boards and advisory boards of companies and non-profit organizations, including the Foundation for teaching Economics and the Sanford Institute of Public Policy at Duke University. Currently, he is an advisory board member of Brynwood Partners, Rosewood Partners, Wingate Partners, Significant Ventures, and the Legacy Foundation. He is also Chairman Emeritus of the advisory board of Stanford Institute of Economic Policy Research.

After receiving a BA from Stanford University, Mr. Hawley earned an MBA from Harvard University.
