(July 21, 2005) DALLAS – Whitney International University System has announced an alliance with the New England College of Finance (NECF) as part of its expanding interests in global education. NECF will become part of a part of the international higher education network being assembled by WIUS.
Originally founded by the banking industry more than 100 years ago, the Boston institution has provided enhanced professional education for thousands of students throughout the financial industry. The prestigious financial institutions who help govern the college as associated members include the Federal Reserve of Boston, Fleet Bank, State Street Corporation, J.P. Morgan Investor Services and Bank of America.
The regionally accredited college offers degrees in business related to the banking and financial services industry. It is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the same board that accredits Harvard University and MIT.
“The NECF board of trustees was in unanimous support of this very positive opportunity. NECF will be able to continue its core mission of serving the financial community and expand its business model to keep up with the changing times,” said Robert A. Regan, president and CEO of the college.
The financial college has several unique features in addition to being governed by a member-driven association. It uses the facilities of its members to teach courses and more than one-half of the courses are taught on-line.
“We look forward to building on the work of this historic institution,” said Randy Best, a board director of Whitney International University System. “We will continue the New England College of Finance’s special relationship with its member organizations as we take its high-quality instruction to a new generation of students around the country and throughout the world.”
The NECF, which will remain headquartered in Boston, will become an important part of the expansion of Whitney International University System, a new private network that will offer high-quality, affordable educational opportunities in key regions of the world. Degrees will focus on relevant professional, technical and practical education that prepares students to enter and advance in the workplace.
